Heathen (Alpine Warrior Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 543 ratings

Vengeful rebels to the north, a deranged and bloodthirsty Vlad Dracula in the east, restless Ottoman hordes in the south and menacing Habsburgs in the west.
Facing multiple threats, Leon Muller, Swiss mercenary leader and saviour of the Hungarian crown, is in the fight of his life.
Leon is a man of contradictions: a brilliant battlefield tactician and ruthless warrior; a passionate lover but a flawed individual; a leader revered by his comrades but hamstrung by his own imperfections. His name strikes fear and awe across Europe and in Ottoman lands. But Leon has also made many enemies and in ‘Heathen’ they circle around him and his friends like hungry wolves. The scene is set for a decisive showdown that will decide not only their own fate, but the destiny of Hungary and the whole of Western Europe.
‘Heathen’ is the eighth volume in the ‘Alpine Warrior’ series – the story of Swiss soldier Leon Muller in the wars of the 15th Century when Europe was riven by civil, religious, dynastic and imperial conflicts. Maps of Austria, Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire are available to view and download for free on the maps page of my website.

A Must Read in Historical Fiction

A Must Read in Historical Fiction
Exciting, well-written, and it's a book that I found hard to put down. The characters are colorfully drawn, and combined with the dialogue - you feel like you are in the midst of the action. I could see this series being developed into a project for television - it's that epic! A great series for anyone looking to explore the historical fiction genre - Peter Darman was my intro, and I am hooked! Highly recommended.

Darman does another great job of bringing history to life through his delightful rogue, Leon Muller. Can’t wait for Book 9.
