Editorial Reviews
Review
- "A standout entry into the canon of twenty/thirty-something fiction, VINCIBLE is for anyone who's been ghosted, fired, or just spectacularly misunderstood— and still managed to laugh about it later. Jay Jameston proves himself not just a keen observer of contemporary life, but a refreshingly original voice in fiction. Highly recommended." —American Writing Awards
- "The book shines when it leans into Jake's self-deprecating voice." —Fans of Fiction
- "Vincible captivates you from the first page thanks to Jameston's witty banter and captivating narrative. It's the kind of book you can't put down since Jake's mishaps are both hilarious and embarrassing. It's the kind of thing you can't look away from because you just need to know what happens next, and you're also grateful you're not him." —Annalise Reads
- "If you want an entertaining, light-hearted and genuinely quite funny read, which doesn't promise to go anywhere profound or thought-provoking, this will be ideal for you... Jay is quality, and I would very much like to read more from him." —Matt McAvoy Book Review
- "Jameston nails the monotony of corporate life, from timecard fraud to cringey team-building events, with a cynicism that feels earned." —Book Inform
- "The dialogue crackles with snark..." —Share Goblin

About the author

If the name Jay Jameston sounds made up, that’s because it is. Jay was mocked in ninth-grade English class for pronouncing the “P” in pseudonym. Following university, Jay pursued a career in Human Resources to follow his lifelong passion of treating human beings like reusable resources. Jay Jameston was once invited to "Late Night with Seth Meyers" by a friend. They sat in the audience. Vincible is Jay’s first novel.

The novel follows Jake Durham, who finds himself single, lost, and navigating the unpredictable world of dating apps, social media disasters, and alcohol-fueled nights.
Jameston’s writing is sharp, witty, and effortlessly relatable. Jake’s misadventures are both cringe-worthy and endearing, making him a protagonist you can’t help but root for. The supporting cast—his loyal friends and an unexpected mentor—add depth and humor, making the story feel like a chaotic yet heartfelt sitcom.
What sets *Vincible* apart is its ability to balance comedy with genuine moments of self-discovery. Beneath the wild antics, there’s an underlying theme of resilience and finding meaning in life’s unexpected turns—something that resonates deeply.
If you enjoy fast-paced, character-driven stories with humor and heart, *Vincible* is a must-read. Perfect for fans of new adult fiction, coming-of-age tales, and anyone who has ever felt completely out of their depth in adulthood.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2025This novel was a fun read. The author’s writing is straightforward and easy to follow. This helped to keep the pace of the novel steadily moving forward. You wanted to see what came next, and what the main character would do. The author portrays the tumultuous life of a young man after a breakup. The hilarity that ensues is amass with bad decisions, unexpected events, and genuine learning about oneself. Overall, this is a humorous tale of a man named Jake Durham and how he navigates life. I would recommend this if you want to laugh and want a fast read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2025This book opens with a beautiful woman named Gwen abruptly ending her years-long relationship with the main character, Jake. As Jake struggles to come to terms with the sudden loss of his partner, he simultaneously grapples with the ups and downs of modern dating, a budding career in the corporate world, and the careful balance required to maintain a successful online presence. He initially believes he has found Gwen’s ideal replacement in the fun and seductive Zoe, but something seems off.
After finishing this book, I may be in what the reading community calls a “slump” for a while. The story is both relatable and delightfully quirky, and I found its subtitular label of “new adult comedy” succinctly accurate. The characters — even the less likable of the cast — are richly developed, and the writing style is witty and unassuming. I wholeheartedly recommend this modern and comedic work of literature to all readers.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2025If you're looking for a lighthearted laugh, Vincible is the book to pick up — especially if you've been in the dating scene for a while. You'll find the characters Vince dates very relatable!! From the start, you realize this will not be a G or PG rated book, as Vince is found by his girlfriend, Gwen, in less-than-acceptable circumstances. When she breaks up with him, newly single Vince is on a search for the perfect woman. To find her, he has to date a lot of frogs, but we get to share in the comedy of the 21st century dating scene. Will he give up? Is she out there? Is he even over Gwen? You'll laugh and relate to this comedy of occasionally drunken errors.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2025I really like some good comedy and this book is as chaotic as hilarious as it gets. Poor Jake spirals through one hilarious disaster after another. Even if I cringe at the idea of some of the stuff he goes through, I also laughed out loud. The dating scene really is something. While I think the book is a bit short to really dive into Jake's growth over time properly, I think it was still a fun, fast-paced ride through the highs and lows of single life, packed with a fair share of humor, questionable life choices (we all know which ones), and just enough heart to make you root for him. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a blend of comedy and self-discovery.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2025An opening of a breakup can only lead to a good read. It leaves Jake mourning Gwen while also trying to find his place in the modern dating world as well as balancing a career and online presence. He finally meets a girl but something just doesn’t seem right. This was a great book. The characters are amazing and the plot is relatable and funny. A great summer read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2025Reading Vincible felt like watching your funniest friend try to survive a breakup while still making the worst decisions imaginable. Jake is a hot mess in the most entertaining way, but there’s something charming about how honest he is about not having life figured out. Every bad date and awkward moment had me cracking up, but the best part was watching how he slowly starts pulling it together with the help of people who genuinely care about him. It’s the kind of story that sneaks some real lessons into the humor, which made it even more memorable.

The story of the imbalance a man suffers once he's ended a relationship and finds himself alone and desolate, the way he tries to fill the inner void, and all the things that happen around him. A story that can resonate with many men when they lose a relationship that keeps them stable, so it's not just a comedy but a vision of how emotional emptiness can lead us to make bad choices, distancing ourselves from exactly what we need.
