Demons and Debts: A Dark Multi-Monster Romance (Desire Aforethought Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,360 ratings

An Autistic woman being hunted. An Incubi MC who can help. But will their price be more than she can pay?

When I was fourteen, a woman I called mom was murdered … and it was my fault.

I’ve been on the run ever since, but someone’s chasing me. I don’t know who they are or what they want. The only thing I’m sure of is that I need to keep moving or more people will die.

They’re going to find me again. They always do.

The human authorities are useless. The supernatural cops, even worse. My only hope is the Iron Incubi MC, the biggest, baddest, meanest supes around. I’m sick of running and I’m desperate enough to make a deal even if it costs me everything I have left.

Oh, and I’m neurodivergent. Autism means my brain works differently. I can keep it together in the day-to-day and mask my hundreds of quirks when I’m around others for short times, but now the five human-hating Incubi who I went to for help have me prisoner at their ‘clubhouse’, i.e., mansion in the middle of nowhere.

So, what happens when five hot as sin s€x demons lock up a human girl who sucks at all the bedroom stuff, doesn’t cope well with change, and definitely can’t mask her ASD 24/7?

I'm Jane Mercy and I have no f**king clue, but I don’t think it’s going to go well for those gorgeous-enough-to-be-underwear-model SOBs … especially when my stalkers come for me …

Demons and Debts is the first book in the Desire Aforethought Series of paranormal romance. If you like hot monsters, alphahole bikers, flawed men, strong heroines, and your multiple POV stories with some mystery, drama, and spice tap now!

Read the first dark adventure in this exciting trilogy before the price changes!

Dark Realms. Dark Anti heroes. Dark Fantasies.

Kyra was almost 20 when she read her first romance. From Norsemen to Regency and Romcom to Dubcon, tales of love and adventure filled a void in her she didn’t know existed.

She’s always been a writer in her head but didn't actually do it for a very long time. Its only recently that she’s started to tell stories in the genres she loves most – which at the moment are very ‘why choose’!!

She grew up in South New Jersey and now lives with her husband and two kids near London in the UK.

Join us in the Portal to the Dark Realm, Kyra's private Facebook readers' group, because she is literally ALWAYS online unless she's asleep - much to her husband's annoyance! And she loves interacting with people on social media.

She's also on Instagram, Goodreads, Twitter and trying TikTok so follow for all the up-to-date info on release dates, exclusive content and other general awesomeness from the Dark Brothers' world - where the road to happily ever after might be rough, but its well worth the journey!!

So if you can't tell, I really liked this book.
Reverse Harem/ Why Choose etc. are my Bread and Butter, but I've never read one with incubi. So that was new for me, it was very entertaining to say the least, and it kept my interest. I love all the guys especially Kor and Sei. But Theo, Theo is my Boi, hands down.

Warning: This book does end on a cliff hanger.

Whether you like cliffhangers or not, I would implore you guys to at least, give this book a shot. Personally, I do like me a good cliffhanger. Glutton for Punishment, I guess.

I think what I Iove most about this book, is Jane. Goodness gracious I love Jane. When I read some of the summary of the book, I was like alright I'll give it a shot. Incubi, Reverse Harem, plus there an MC, sign me up. But then once I found out Jane was Autistic. I knew this book had my heart. I've never read a book where the Main Character was nerodivergent. Being nerodivergent myself my heart sang happy songs tht there was a character who could speak to me in ways that others wouldn't or couldn't understand. Though personally I've never been diagnosed with Autism myself, I related to some of the things Jane was adverse to (idk if that's the right word), like sensory things, textures or certain fabrics, loud noises etc. I truly loved how the author wrote Jane. Not to mention Jane has a fiery side to her tht I loved. You see 2 sides of her, and I can't get enough of it. Tbh, she is what kept my interest in the book, besides the story itself, of course. I dont think I've ever loved a MC as much as I do Jane.

    On to Book 2. I can't Wait.

My first Kyra Alessy book and I'm not disappointed. I'm also not a Romantasy reader, as all the names and languages and often the intricate world building confuses me and I give up. But I understood this story at all times. The world building was not so technical that I couldn't understand. I admit, I had to look up incubus and neuro-divergent, but there's often a word in a book I have to look up the meaning for. It's worth reading.

I absolutely LOVED "Demons and Debts"! It was so much more than I expected to get when I read the blurb and decided to preorder. I like the fmc Jane. The author didn't make her into a stereotype, or in a character that's only defined by her diagnosis, but into a lovable woman who was dealt blow after blow and is still standing strong. Even though she knows she's surrounded by powerful demons, she sticks true to herself and what matters to her. The way autism is portrayed in society often doesn't fit with how women experience it, and I really hope books like these will help show that to a lot more people out there.

I always love reading about Incubi, so I was quite intrigued to see an entire MC filled with them. I liked the different characters, the struggles some of them face themselves, and how the arrival of Jane triggers them to face some of those. A lot of these men fit the description of an alphahole, and it's clear they have a lot to learn before any of them are ready for a real relationship. I'm actually looking forward to see how Jane's presence will influence them further. There are a lot of mysteries involved in this book, mostly around who Jane is, who her stalkers her and why they have been following her for ten years, and I'm absolutely dying to find some answers in the next book!

This book is excellent and I recommend it for any adult reader. As an autistic woman I was so glad that there is a book with an authentic feeling autistic female main character. I could easily relate to the both the Jane’s struggles and strengths but so can a non-autistic reader. For example, the breakfast cereal scenes are hilarious and totally relatable to almost anyone. Jane has such stubbornness, tenacity, and vulnerability. I just love her so much. The guys are of course hot and even though I want to kick them in the shins sometimes, I still ended up really liking them. Especially when they provide for her sensory needs and one of them says to Jane that she doesn’t have to mask around them. But my favorite thing about the book was how Jane was treated by the both the author and the guys in regards to her and sex. So many times, us adult Autistics are treated like children which includes assuming that we lack sexual desirability or desire (even if we aren’t Ace.) So it was great to see an autistic character that both liked sex and that Demons wanted to bang. It was refreshing.

Well, this is my first time reading a book with a autistic FMC and seeing how her mind worked it’s very refreshing! I don’t have the knowledge to say that’s realistic or not, but I believed everything and felt more and more connected with the story!
    It was an amazing read!

Kyra Alessy delivers another superb book! Despite my usual aversion to cliffhangers, the compelling writing and engaging narrative of this story kept me hooked. I admired Jane's inner strength, and her internal dialogues were very amusing. This captivating book will make you reluctant to put it down, and leave you eagerly anticipating the second installment, just as I am.

The story is simply amazing, so much hurt and pain, all that emotional suffering, damn.
Drama, action, steam and vulnerability, amazing strong female lead. Wow!
Could not put it down and had to read the whole series in one go, foregoing sleep, so enthralling.
Only downside is the writing style! I really disliked, how the author used slang, abbreviations and non conclusive language, that was way too niche, so I did not understand some stuff. Pissed me of, because it's almost like showing the middle finger to all readers, that are not part of her clique and therefore not privy to the meaning of her 'coded language'.

I loved this - everything was described so beautifully, I felt everything Jade did - I was sad, heart broken, and angry all for her - I love that no matter who you are, what you are or are not suffering from, this is relatable in so many ways - we all feel alone and different, and this was just a wonderfully written journey describing what that looks like from someone else’s mind
    - highly recommend
    - just enough unknown to keep you hooked, a tiny bit of spice but I know it will build
    Great concept - loved it

    Stars given on level of engagement;

5 stars - amazing! Less than a day to read because I cannot put it down and obsessed about after finishing it. I only give 5 stars if it has managed to engage extra emotions from me - extreme lol moments or real teary moments etc. A 5 stars book tends to have me raging about cliff hangers and stalking the author for release dates.

4 stars - really good. 2 days to read or less. A book that I have really enjoyed reading, feisty MC and some racy scenes with thier romantic interest. I would definitely follow a series and author for 4 star books.

3 stars - enjoyable. It takes around 2/3 days to read, by the end the end I have enjoyed the overall story and would read any sequels.

1/2 stars not given, as I have usually returned it without finishing as I'm not engaged. .
